| Church Update #4 - 2/11 |
|
The installation of the new roof system over the main structure is nearly complete. The roof trusses and sheathing have been installed, as well as a layer of ice and water shield over the entire roof system. This protective membrane will defend the roof system from the elements until the roof shingles are applied. The other crucial component of protecting the interior of the structure from the elements, the windows, have also been installed.
The new exterior trim work along the tops of the exterior walls and at the roof edges has largely been attached. This trim is manufactured from Azek building material, which is more durable than the original wood trim. The new Azek trim was fabricated to be a nearly exact reproduction of the original trim work.
The new steel steeple support structure has been fabricated and installed. The top of the structure features a barrel-like steel cage, fabricated from steel pipes, on which the new reproduction steeple will sit. The church’s bell, produced by the Meneely Bell Company in Troy, NY in 1891, has taken its place within the steeple support barrel. Neal Kidney of Alpha Construction executed the first ringing of the bell in its new home at noon on February 9th.
The design of the rear portion of the church is still under review. Efforts are being made to maximize the use of the available space and showcase the historic Chapel Building on site.
